Magic Kingdom is undergoing a significant expansion with the introduction of two new themed lands: Cars Land and Villains Land, as well as an upgrade to the “Big Thunder Mountain Railroad”. Work has already begun in the area behind Big Thunder Mountain, where there are visible signs of construction.

Cars Land, inspired by the popular Disney-Pixar film “Cars”, will offer two new attractions. The first is an exciting rally course through mountainous terrain, where guests can navigate wild landscapes, climb trails, and avoid geysers. The second attraction will be more family-friendly and designed for younger guests. Cars Land will be located where Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island currently are. This expansion is part of the larger “Beyond Big Thunder” project, which also includes Villains Land.

Villains Land will be dedicated to the iconic villains from the Disney universe. This new land will include two major attractions, as well as dining and shopping venues. Concept art shows a dark and thorny landscape with a roller coaster winding through glowing caves. Villains Land will offer a unique experience where guests can meet their favorite villains and explore a world where “happily ever after” feels like a distant dream. This area will be located behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and work to prepare the area is already underway.

The construction behind Big Thunder Mountain is visible from both the queue and the attraction itself, with large tarps covering parts of the work, but it is currently unclear exactly what this work is related to. The entire area will soon undergo a major transformation in connection with the two new lands.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will also close for an extended period for refurbishment, with a planned reopening in 2026. This refurbishment will include a new explosive finale sequence, which will bring a little extra magic to the attraction.
