Rider Switch, also known as “Child Swap,” is a service offered by Walt Disney World for families with small children. It allows parents or caregivers to take turns riding an attraction without having to queue twice.
When you arrive at an attraction that offers Rider Switch, go to the entrance of the queue area and inform a Cast Member (employee) that you wish to use the Rider Switch service. They will guide you through the process.
Your group will be split into two: the first group that will ride the attraction and the second group that will wait outside with those who cannot or do not want to ride.
The first group goes through the regular queue and experiences the attraction as usual. Usually, there will be a limit to the number of people per group who can benefit from Rider Switch, depending on the safety restrictions of the attraction.
While the first group is inside the attraction, the second group can wait outside or take advantage of other facilities nearby.
When the first group is done riding the attraction, they switch with the second group. The first group can either wait at the exit of the attraction or meet at an agreed meeting point outside.
The second group can now go through an alternative entrance or queue line, often via a Lightning Lane, to experience the attraction without having to stand in the regular queue. This helps to significantly reduce the waiting time.
