The weather in Florida can be variable with heat, high humidity, and afternoon showers, much of the year. At the times of the year when afternoon showers are most common, it’s a good idea to be in the park when it opens in the morning. Then it’s usually not raining, a bit cooler in the air, and fewer people in the parks.
Winter: Relatively low humidity, cooler nights, and varying daytime temperatures (somewhere from 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit). Little rain during the day.
Spring: Slightly higher humidity. Warm, with temperatures in the upper half of the 70s during the day. Mostly dry, but some rain showers can occur.
Summer: Nice and warm, with higher humidity. This is naturally the hottest time of the year, and you can count on an afternoon shower most days.
Fall: The heat is on par with spring, but this is a slightly more humid period, with afternoon showers like in the summer. In addition, this is hurricane season, but the inland in Florida never gets the strongest wind, because hurricanes lose strength when they come inland. Most houses are built to withstand a category 3 hurricane. Fall is also a time with fewer tourists in Florida and generally the time you should travel if you want to avoid the worst queues.
March
If you travel to Florida in March, you will most likely be met with pleasant, mild weather. March is often moderately warm, with temperatures between 57 and 79 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the time of year it may be wise to dress in layers. Sometimes it will be warm enough for shorts and a t-shirt in the middle of the day, but in the evening you may want to put on a jacket or sweater.
April
April is a bit warmer than March, with temperatures from 65 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit. What may surprise you about April is that it is one of the least rainy months in Orlando! On average, you will experience about 4 rainy days throughout the entire month. But make sure to bring a rain poncho just in case!
May
If you’re expecting a sunny and warm Disney World, May is your month! While the average temperature is only slightly higher than April (70 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit), you are in a pretty nice middle position between too hot and too cold. At the end of May, the temperature will start to rise, so if you’re not a fan of too hot weather, the beginning of the month is a fantastic time to visit Florida. May averages 6 rainy days, making it a relatively dry month!
June
As summer approaches, temperatures start to rise, but the warm temperatures are quite stable throughout the summer. In June, the average temperature is between 73 and 91 degrees Fahrenheit, and it’s not much different for July and August. June averages around 12 rainy days, but this can vary. Usually, the showers happen in the afternoon, so a good strategy is to prioritize outdoor attractions in the morning. June is also the start of hurricane season! Although it is not common for Orlando to experience a hurricane this month, it can happen, so be aware.
July
About like in June, the temperature is between 72 and 91 degrees Fahrenheit. As the weather gets warmer, it’s important to drink plenty of water and make sure not to overheat. So remember sunscreen and preferably a cap or sun hat. July averages around 12 rainy days, so again make sure to prioritize outdoor attractions, as these will be the first to close if the rain comes. Fortunately, the rain in Florida usually doesn’t last long, so don’t get too discouraged if you see a dark cloud or two!
August
In August, the temperature is usually between 75 and 91 degrees Fahrenheit. That doesn’t mean you won’t see temperatures that are both higher and lower than this! August usually has a bit more rain than, for example, June, with an average of 14 rainy days. This means that there is a 50/50 chance every day that you will see some rain! But as previously said, it is often about passing afternoon showers, so remember to bring a rain poncho. Disposable rain ponchos are the easiest. They are inexpensive and take up very little space. You can buy these at places like WalMart, Target, Publix, etc.
September
Yay, it’s fall! Time for cooler temperatures…or? Well…depending on how you see it! The average is somewhat lower than the summer, but it’s still not exactly fleece and wool temperatures. Temperatures are between 73 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit, so it’s still shorts and a t-shirt that applies. September is in the middle of hurricane season, and sometimes quite intense storms can visit at this time of year (but not always). There is no reason to worry anyway! Disney World is well prepared for extreme weather and has protocols in place to keep guests and employees safe. Also remember that Orlando is located inland, and hurricanes lose power when they come inland.
October
In October, you can expect temperatures to be between 68 and 84 degrees Fahrenheit. At this time of year, Orlando finally starts to return to “cooler” temperatures, so when the sun goes down and you’re in the parks at night, you might want to wear a long-sleeved t-shirt. On average, Disney World sees around 5 rainy days in October, but don’t be fooled! Hurricane season is not quite over yet, and it’s not unthinkable to see a storm roll through in October as well.
November
November marks the last month of hurricane season and it’s very unlikely that you’ll see any major storms this month – but not impossible! The average temperature ranges from 61 to 79 degrees Fahrenheit. This is another great time for perfect mild temperatures, plus November on average only sees around 4 rainy days! Despite this, don’t forget to bring sun protection; even if the sky is overcast, UV rays can still reach your skin.
December
If comfortable to cool temperatures and minimal rain are your thing, December might be the best time of year for you to visit Disney World! On average, there are only around 4 days of rain, while temperatures range between 55 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit. This may not be the normal Christmas weather for us Norwegians, but Disney does its best to get guests in the right Christmas spirit. You can even see some “snowflakes” while you’re in the parks, even though these snowflakes are actually made of soap! For those who can’t stand the cold, this could be the perfect way to spend the holiday, away from the freezing temperatures back home.
January
January is probably the least humid month of the year! It’s also quite cool, with an average temperature between 52 and 72 degrees Fahrenheit. Even though it’s not as hot, still make sure to drink enough and protect yourself with sunscreen! Lack of humidity also means fewer rainy days – January averages 4 rainy days. However, this is the time when wearing a poncho and other rain gear is just as important as other times of the year! The last thing you want is to be both soaked AND cold.
February
February is the month when temperatures finally start to rise a bit again. Normally they range between 54 and 75 degrees Fahrenheit, and usually the morning can start cold before it gets warmer during the day. Just like January, February is a fairly dry month. On average, Orlando will get around 4 rainy days during the month. February is a great time to avoid the biggest crowds and at the same time enjoy some milder temperatures!
This is a good general guide to follow when planning your next trip to Disney World. The weather can be unpredictable, so don’t be surprised if you see a lot of rain during an apparently “dry” month or temperatures outside the norm. For example, we saw in February 2023 that temperatures reached up to 91 degrees Fahrenheit! We suggest anyway to have rain gear (read: disposable rain poncho) with you at all times and dress in layers, in the more “cool” months.
