Buzz Lightyear and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Reopen Soon – New Dates Are Set!

Walt Disney World has just revealed when two of Magic Kingdom’s most beloved classics are returning after lengthy refurbishments, and it’s sooner than you might think.

After extensive refurbishments, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin is ready to welcome new Space Rangers as early as April 8, 2026, while Big Thunder Mountain Railroad rolls out again in early May the same year. Both attractions have been closed for an extended period, but Disney promises that the wait will be worth it – with fresh updates that take the experiences to new heights.

For Buzz Lightyear enthusiasts, stepping into it will feel like entering a brand-new episode of Toy Story. The attraction will feature new vibration blasters, real-time scoring, glowing targets, and redesigned vehicles that give an even stronger sense of being a true Space Ranger. A completely new support bot named Buddy from Star Command also makes an appearance and helps guests with target practice before they set out to defeat Emperor Zurg. Updated scenes and effects make the entire mission feel fresher and more modern, while preserving the classic charm.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, known as “The Wildest Ride in the Wilderness,” is also receiving a thorough refresh that extends from the top of the mountain to the deepest caves. Through a complete renovation with new magic and polished details, guests can expect, among other things, a spectacular moment in Rainbow Caverns – a natural phenomenon that may prove to be a bit less welcoming than initially assumed. The iconic roller coaster retains all its action, speed, and adventure, but with an extra layer of details and surprises that make the journey through Tumbleweed even more memorable.

With these dates now confirmed, families and Disney fans can plan their spring 2026 with even greater excitement. Now it’s just a matter of counting down the days until the gates open again!
